Choosing the right hearing aid as far as style goes is very important, It is usually part of a consultation with the
client and/or their family members.
It is very important to choose a hearing aid which is easy to manage.
Manageability has 3 aspects:

Ease of wearing.
•
Ease of cleaning.
•
Ease of powering or battery change.
Your Audiologist will help choose the style based on your dexterity, shape of ear canal and the vision.
Dexterity is determined by agility in finger, elbow, shoulder joints and the sensitivity in the finger tips. If any such
issue exist then choose an aid which is easy to hold and manipulate,
Shape of ear canal: Bendy, narrow ear canals are hard to get some styles of hearing aids in. We discuss this aspect
with our clients and help them choose a hearing aid accordingly.
Vision: Bigger and colour coded hearing aids are easier to see and orient when wearing. ITE style followed by sBTE
are usually easier to wear and can be easily colour coded.
Ease of cleaning: Hearing aids tend to get blocked with ear wax. Some people are more
prone to wax build up than others, having said that with age people tend to accumulate
more wax in their ears. Some people have ongoing ear health issue i.e. outer or middle ear
infections. We help our client choose a style which is less prone to wax blockage.
We also take care to choose a style which is easier to clean, rather than having to fiddle with
small parts which could be again dependent on fine dexterity.
Power/ battery: We help choose a style which you can easily change batteries. These days we have rechargeable
hearing aids, which do not require battery change. They go in a charger when not in use. Rechargeable hearing aids
are ideal for people with dexterity and vision issues.
Rechargeabilty in hearing aid is also good for environment.
Most Styles come with re-chargeable battery features.
